Don Bowyer Bio:

Don Bowyer is the Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he teaches Jazz and the Music Technology.  Dr. Bowyer received the Doctor of Arts in Trombone Performance and Jazz Pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado, and has taught at every level from kindergarten through university in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Sweden.

Bowyer's interests in music technology are focused on the field of computer-assisted instruction in music, with a particular interest in Internet delivery.  He is the creator of Dolphin Don's Music School, an educational computer game that teaches music reading and ear training for children.

Bowyer has recorded a big band jazz CD, Itchin' In The Kitchen, with nine original compositions and two arrangements.  All of the compositions are published by Walrus Music Publishing.  His largest unpublished composition is a 35-minute wedding mass, composed for his own wedding, for chorus and 11-piece orchestra.  His publications include:

As a trombonist, Bowyer has performed in nearly 40 countries on five continents, having worked as a bandleader, a soloist, and an orchestra member with artists including Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, Charo, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, Phyllis Diller, the Fifth Dimension, the Four Freshmen, Jack Jones, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Al Martino, Bobby McFerrin, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, James Moody, Tommy Newsome, the Platters, Mavis Rivers, the Spinners, Fred Travalena, and the West Virginia Chorale.  He also spent five years playing trombone on eleven cruise ships in the Caribbean Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska.
